Injection molding post-processing refers to treatments or modifications applied to a plastic injection molded part after molding to enhance its aesthetics, functionality, or performance. Post-processing improves the properties of plastic injection molded parts so that they are ready for end-use. It includes corrective actions that remove surface defects and secondary processes for decorative or functional purposes.
With injection molding, there are several common types of post-processing activities:
Spray Painting Painting is one of the most cost-effective ways to enhance the look of your product. There are various painting methods available including spray painting and powder coating.
UV Printing UV printing utilizes UV light to instantly cure ink onto the desired surface. This process helps speed up and simplify the personalization print process by instantly curing full-color ink with no delay.
Pad Printing&Screen Printing Pad and screen printing are used to place colored graphics on parts. This can be done for branding, labeling, or part number identification. Screen printing is ideal for adding graphics that require multiple colors.
Thermal transfer printing Thermal transfer printing technology on plastic contributes to making products more beautiful, richer, and the images used in printing have good color fastness, clarity, and high quality.
Ultrasonic Welding The ultrasonic welding process uses high-frequency mechanical sound waves to create molecular heat between thermoplastic materials. This will cause the plastic to melt and form a molecular bond between the parts.
Hot Plate Welding The hot plate welderuses a heated plate to melt the joining surfaces of the two halves of a thermoplastic part. parts.
Heat Pressing Metal inserts are placed into the plastic parts. This secondary process is done by using heat and pushing the inserts into the parts.
Heat staking This process joins two parts by inserting the stud of one part into a hole in the other part. The stud is then deformed with heat to mechanically lock the parts together.
Post-Molding Machining This machining can be used to remove flash (excess plastic), change the shape or texture of the part, or prepare the part for further post-processing.
Laser Etching/Marking Laser marking of plastic, or plastic engraving, is a process during which components are labelled or marked with the aid of a laser. Many plastics and thermoplastics can be laser marked.
